Nthwese Developments to Create Over 650 Jobs for emaSwati

Date: May 14, 202

MANZINI – Nthwese Developments, a pioneering property development and management company founded by Seabelo (Herbert) Theledi, has commenced the construction of the Manzini Mall at the Old Trade Fair Grounds, promising to create over 650 job opportunities for emaSwati.

Construction Kick-off and Job Creation

The first phase of the Manzini Mall construction began yesterday, marked by a ceremony attended by the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo. He emphasized that this project is a significant step towards achieving First World status for Manzini and the nation. Minister Khumalo highlighted the transformative potential of the mall, stating that it would not only change the face of Manzini but also provide diverse employment opportunities throughout its construction phases.

Addressing Unemployment

With the national unemployment rate currently at 35.4%, as reported by the Integrated Labour Force Survey 2023, and youth unemployment at a staggering 56.0%, the job creation aspect of this project is particularly critical. Herbert Theledi, the visionary behind Nthwese Developments, has been instrumental in driving this initiative forward, ensuring that the project will significantly alleviate unemployment and foster economic growth in the region.

Project Details and Economic Impact

Antonio Sousa, Nthoese Development Manager, confirmed that in the initial stages, between 650 and 750 emaSwati would be employed, excluding the casual workers to be recruited as needed. Sousa noted that the project’s economic impact would be substantial, with tenants expected to hire additional staff, thereby boosting the local economy. “The projected cost of the project is E2 billion, but it can go as high as E5 billion. This is a huge project, and we are excited about it,” Sousa stated.

The Manzini Mall, which will feature over 50 tenants, including banks, eateries, clothing shops, supermarkets, and jewelry stores, is set to become a central hub of activity. It will also include a bridge linking it to the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre, a bus terminus, a taxi rank, and market stalls.

Commitment to Community and Economic Development

Herbert Theledi reiterated Nthwese Development’s commitment to creating job opportunities and improving the lives of emaSwati. “Through this project, we will create about 4,000 job opportunities for emaSwati, with 1,400 permanent positions and 2,600 during the construction phases,” Theledi explained. He emphasized that the impact of these jobs would extend to about 40,000 emaSwati, as the income of an individual typically supports multiple family members.

Theledi assured His Majesty King Mswati III that he would be invited to officially open the Manzini Mall in October 2025, coinciding with the project’s targeted completion date.
